1977-78: PP Robin De Morgan

Message from President Robin De Morgan

The following report sets out in some detail, the events of the Rotary Year ending 30 June, 1978 and the plans for the year following for the Rotary Club of Hong Kong South.  The Board of Directors and I hope that the report will give our own members, Rotarians from other clubs and all other interested parties, an overview of the aims, achievements and future plans of the Club during the past year and in this way, will stimulate further activity in the future.

The main aim of the Club is service to the community and the main prerequisite to achieve this major aim is good fellowship.

At the beginning of the year, a plan was laid down detailing all the main areas of the Club’s activities and using the key phrase “Action”.  In reviewing the plan, it would appear that the majority of objectives have been achieved with a full programme throughout the year balanced between activities with a view to keeping members well informed of Club projects and a comprehensive community service programme.  Particular features have been the dental treatment project by Rotarian Donald Chanwai, the joint project with other Hong Kong Clubs for the installation of an autoclave unit for the Family Planning Association and the establishment of the Prison Preventers Organization, which is now also a joint project.

Other features of the year have been a successful Charity Ball at the Repulse Bay Hotel in November, and several other evening functions to ensure the fellowship of the Club.  The Vocational Service Committee has been active, having arranged several visits to members’ factories and works, and has taken a leading part in the joint Hong Kong Clubs’ Vocational Service programme, in particular, sponsoring the Executive Secretaries’ Seminar at the Hong Kong Polytechnic.  International Service has been achieved by several communications with other Clubs, in particular the beginnings of a sister club relationship with Taipei South.  This link will be forged later with a visit to Taipei.

In summary, the Club has been very active during the year having grown in membership and continued to prosper in community effort and fellowship.  This is due to the involvement of all members and , I would like to express my sincere personal appreciation for their support and in particular to incoming President, Paul Young, wishing him and his Board of Directors every success.
